Harper continued his good form with 5-56 as the match followed the pattern of the 3rd and 4th Tests closely.

Pitch: 30 - A hard, bumpy pitch that will help the fast bowlers early on. With the ball coming quickly
onto the bat the scoring rate should be brisk, and this wicket should produce a good game of
cricket with help for both the batsmen and bowlers at different times in the match. By the
later stages the top surface may begin to show signs of damage and any target set for the
fourth innings may be difficult to chase.

Pitch: 65 - Moisture below the surface makes this wicket feel rather soft, and there is unlikely to be much life in the pitch early on. Once the drying out process is complete the ball should come more
quickly onto the bat and that will be appreciated by the batsmen. However the spinners may
find the wicket beginning to turn on the final day so batting last may see the worst of the
conditions.

A well made hundred to opener Phil Wallace and another solid contribution from allrounder Haynes were the highlight of an improved batting effort by the home side.
The South African bowlers struggled at times but did enough to leave their batsmen a target of 113 off 21 overs.

Hundreds too Cook, Cronje, and Kuiper were the highlight of a strong South African reply, as the visitors took a 233 run first innings lead.
None of the home bowlers made an impression on a pitch which had flattened out and offered them little assistance.

West Indies v South Africa - 3rd Test 1991/2 - South Africa 2nd Innings

West Indies v South Africa - 3rd Test 1991/2 - South Africa 2nd Innings

Set 382 to win, South Africa lost wickets steadily to lose the match by 165 runs late on Day 4.
Rushmere made 67 in the only real resistance as the home spinners took 8 wickets between them in conditions ideal for spin bowling.
Harper took his 2nd 4 wicket haul of the game, while part timer Arthurton took 3-16.
The result sees the series level at 1-1 with 2 games to play, though the crushing nature of the victory suggests much of the momentum is now with pre series favourites West Indies.

West Indies v South Africa - 3rd Test 1991/2 - West Indies 2nd Innings

With a first innings lead of 263, the West Indies were unfocused in their 2nd innings.
Though they collapsed for 118, a 4th innings target of 382 in difficult conditions said the home team had probably done enough.
Allan Donald claimed his 3rd 5 wicket haul of the series in another excellent display of fast swing bowling.
